Concrete Removal in Richmond Hill

Concrete breaking and removal for homeowners and builders replacing driveways, patios, walkways and slabs. We break the concrete, load it and leave a clean base, across Richmond Hill and nearby York Region towns.

How we do it

Concrete work makes up a big share of what we do, and the photos here cover most of it: a hydraulic breaker punching holes across a cracked driveway, a curb lifted out along a sidewalk, a patio slab piled under a pergola, and an excavator filling a bin with broken pieces.

The equipment depends on the job. A skid steer with a breaker handles most driveways and patios. A mini excavator is better for thick slabs, footings and anything that needs digging out. Close to a house or a foundation wall, we switch to handheld breakers so vibration stays low.

Before we break anything we book utility locates through Ontario One Call. Driveways often hide gas lines, water services and buried cables, and a locate is the only safe way to know where they run. We also check for heated driveway loops and irrigation lines you may know about.

Broken concrete is loaded into bins or trucks and taken to a recycler where possible, since clean concrete can be crushed and reused. Where there is steel mesh or rebar, it is separated so the metal can be recycled too. If the base underneath is in good shape, we leave it for your paving contractor. If not, we can dig it out to the depth they ask for.

Along the street, curb and sidewalk work sometimes needs a City permit, and anything on the road allowance belongs to the City. We will tell you if your job touches it. Concrete removal often sits alongside other work, so it pairs well with garage demolition or pool removal.

Questions from Richmond Hill homeowners

Do I need a permit to remove my driveway?
Work on your own lot usually does not need one, but anything that touches the curb, sidewalk or road allowance can need City approval. We check whether your job reaches that far.
Is broken concrete recycled?
Where possible, yes. Clean concrete goes to a recycler for crushing and reuse, and steel mesh or rebar is separated for metal recycling.
Will breaking concrete damage my foundation?
We use handheld breakers close to the house to keep vibration low, and larger equipment only where there is space. Any existing cracks are noted before we start.
Can you remove the gravel base as well?
Yes. If your paving contractor wants a new base, we dig out to their depth. If the base is sound, we leave it in place.
