Garage Demolition in Richmond Hill

Demolition of detached garages, carports and similar outbuildings for homeowners who want the space back. We take the structure down, remove the slab if you want it gone and clean up, in Richmond Hill and the surrounding towns.

How we do it

A detached garage is one of the most common single-structure jobs we do. The two photos here show how it usually goes: an excavator reaches in from the driveway side, pulls the roof down into the footprint and then folds the walls inward, so the house and fence line are never in the way.

Before we start, we check whether the garage has power running to it. If it does, the circuit needs to be disconnected by a licensed electrician, and we will not start until that is confirmed. We also look at whether the garage is big enough to need a demolition permit from the City of Richmond Hill. Larger accessory buildings usually do, small ones often do not, and the City has the final say.

Older garages sometimes have asbestos in roofing, siding or old panels. If the building is old enough that this is a possibility, a survey is done first so anything hazardous is removed by the right people before the machine touches it.

Once the walls are down, we sort the wood, metal and roofing into separate loads where we can. Many owners also want the concrete slab gone so they can extend a yard or pour a new pad. We break the slab, load it and leave the area rough graded. Slab retention can be assessed separately, but the receiving designer must establish whether it suits any proposed reuse.

Tight lots are common in Mill Pond and Richvale, and a narrow side yard can make access tricky. We size the machine to the space and protect driveways with plywood where the tracks will run. If the garage is part of a bigger backyard clean-up, pair it with junk and debris removal or concrete removal.

Before we visit

Help us understand your scope

  • What stays?

Note structures, finishes and landscaping that need protection.

  • How do we reach it?

Describe stairs, gates, shared driveways and space for loading.

  • What is already known?

Share available plans, building rules and survey information. Unknowns can wait for assessment.

A retained slab still needs a reuse decision

Ask the receiving designer about the slab's construction, condition, dimensions and suitability for the proposed new structure. Retaining it during demolition is not approval to build on it. If the replacement design is undecided, keep slab retention conditional rather than describing an old pad as ready for any new garage or shed.

What to expect

  1. 1

    Site visit

Questions from Richmond Hill homeowners

Do I need a permit to take down my garage?
It depends on the size of the building. Larger accessory buildings in Richmond Hill generally need a demolition permit and small ones often do not. We check at the site visit and help you confirm with the City.
Can you leave the concrete slab?
Slab retention can be assessed as part of the scope. Its suitability for a new garage or shed needs the receiving designer?s review; keeping it does not approve reuse.
My garage has electricity. What happens?
A licensed electrician needs to disconnect the circuit at the house first. We confirm that has been done before any demolition starts.
Will the machine damage my driveway?
We lay protection where the tracks run and choose a machine sized for the access. Any concern about an older driveway is discussed at the site visit.
