Office partitions: retain, relocate or demolish?
A partition system that might be reused should not enter an ordinary demolition list before its destination is decided. Keeping it in place, asking its specialist to relocate it and removing it for disposal are three different instructions. Start by identifying the system from available records, without dismantling it to investigate.

Compare the three outcomes
| Choice | Decision needed first | Effect on ordinary removal |
|---|---|---|
| Retain in place | Does the new office layout use these rooms? | Assess neighbouring finishes and items without including the retained partitions |
| Specialist relocation | Will a suitable installer accept the system for the receiving layout? | Leave its dismantling and handling outside the demolition package unless specifically agreed |
| Remove for disposal | Has the authorised owner decided against reuse? | Assess the actual partition assembly and surrounding connections |
Manufacturer details, installation records and the proposed receiving layout help the specialist assess reuse. Apparent condition does not guarantee compatibility, missing parts or intact recovery. TrueNorth does not offer manufacturer certification or installation through an ordinary strip-out enquiry.
Follow the room edges
Partitions meet floors, ceilings, doors and services. Moving the system can leave a footprint needing repairs; retaining it can constrain nearby floor or ceiling renewal. Ask the incoming fit-out contractor to identify those transitions before defining the removal boundary.
Our one-office change guide covers a smaller room alteration. This decision goes further by separating reusable business assets from finishes that genuinely belong in demolition.
An illustrative relocation decision
An occupier wants to keep two meeting rooms but move a third to another floor. The installer first reviews the reusable system and receiving position. Obsolete surrounding floor finishes are then assessed as a separate removal package, with the retained rooms marked clearly.
If the installer cannot accept the third room, the owner revises the instruction before demolition is agreed. The crew is not left to decide whether a potentially reusable system should be broken up or stored.
Explain the destination in your enquiry
Use office strip-outs for the ordinary removal scope. Tell us which partitions stay outside the package, who is reviewing relocation and what finishes still need removal. Mention uncertain ownership or missing system information as questions, not confirmed disposal instructions.
Explain your project your way
Use the short enquiry or the optional three-step planner. You can review the summary and leave uncertain details for assessment. Neither form accepts attachments.
