What changes when a carport roof joins the house?
An open-sided carport can still have important connections to the retained building. The absence of walls does not make its roof a freestanding object. Explain where it meets the house and what you expect that side of the house to look like afterwards.

Separate the decisions
The assessment needs to distinguish removal of the carport from repair or weather protection at the connection. Gutters, lights and other attached items may also cross the boundary. These details need to be identified without assuming they are all included in one removal instruction.
What to explain next
Ask who will review the connection and who takes responsibility for the retained building after separation. Keep that arrangement explicit in the written scope. If a replacement structure is planned, give the designer’s instructions rather than assuming the same supports can be reused.
An example, not a completed job
Put the uncertainty into words
“The carport roof meets the house above a side door. We want the parking space open but need the roof junction and weather protection reviewed first.”
- Where does the roof meet the house?
- Which attached services or drainage items cross the boundary?
- Who handles the retained junction?
Choose your next step
Use the short enquiry, or organise what you know in the optional three-step planner. You can leave uncertain details for assessment. The form does not accept attachments.
