Offices and tenant changes
Converting between office and retail interiors
An office and a shop can use the same tenancy differently. The useful demolition question is which inherited rooms and fixed fit-out obstruct the incoming layout. Compare both directions before treating a change of business as a reason to strip every finish.

Office to shop: decide what should open up
An office layout may divide the proposed sales floor into small rooms. The designer can identify which assessed partitions leave and whether a rear staff room or washroom remains useful. Reception joinery might conflict with the new counter position even when surrounding finishes can stay.
Follow the room changes into the ceiling and floor. Removing partitions can expose discontinuous finishes that the new installer must assess. Opening up the plan does not mean every building element belongs in demolition.
Shop to office: decide what is already useful
An open sales floor might suit the proposed workplace with little removal. An obsolete cash counter, display fixtures and selected finishes may be the main items that leave. Building new meeting rooms is a construction package, not extra demolition just because the future plan has more walls.
| Direction | Retention opportunity | Removal question |
|---|---|---|
| Office to shop | Staff facilities and useful rear rooms | Which partitions obstruct the reviewed sales arrangement? |
| Shop to office | Open space and suitable finishes | Which fixed retail items conflict with the workplace? |
The table is an illustrative comparison. It does not establish that a proposed new use is permitted at a particular address.
Keep frontage and services assigned
The designer, property contact and relevant authority resolve use and building requirements. Shopfront changes, shared systems and new service installation retain their own parties. A cleared interior does not approve a different business use.
If the premises were a restaurant, the restaurant-to-retail guide addresses additional equipment and food-service interfaces. Keep those questions separate from an ordinary office/shop comparison.
Select the service around the actual work
Use office strip-outs for the workplace-removal package or retail strip-outs for inherited shop fit-out. Describe both old and proposed uses in your enquiry, with retained rooms and the design contact. Ask for alternatives to be assessed separately if the next layout is still being decided.
Explain your project your way
Use the short enquiry or the optional three-step planner. You can review the summary and leave uncertain details for assessment. Neither form accepts attachments.
