Interior demolition for a home energy retrofit
An energy retrofit should not begin with an assumed whole-house gut. The adviser and designer first establish the chosen improvements and assemblies. The removal package then identifies which interior finishes obstruct that work and which rooms can remain outside it.

Follow the chosen assembly through the house
The need for access may run along an exterior wall, meet a ceiling or continue around a window return. Those boundaries are different from ordinary room names. Ask the retrofit team to explain the required exposure before drawing a demolition line at a doorway.
| Part of the home | Question for the retrofit design |
|---|---|
| Exterior-wall interior | Which linings need removal for the selected work? |
| Window return | How does the proposed assembly meet the retained opening? |
| Ceiling edge | Is access local, continuous or unnecessary? |
| Interior room away from the work | Can its existing finishes stay? |
The table organises questions; it is not an insulation, air-sealing or ventilation specification.
Compare access removal with elective renewal
In an illustrative main-floor project, the reviewed work affects the outer walls of two rooms while the internal hall stays untouched. The demolition enquiry identifies those wall linings and their ceiling junctions, with furniture clearance handled separately.
The homeowner might also choose new flooring throughout. That is an additional renovation decision, not something automatically required by the energy objective. Keep it separately described so the assessment can distinguish necessary access from elective renewal.
For a much wider retained-shell renovation, compare the whole-house interior guide. It explains the inter-floor and retained-stair questions that a narrow assembly-access package may not have.
Assign inspection and reinstatement
The receiving contractor identifies what needs to be inspected once finishes are removed. Unknown or suspect materials require the appropriate assessment before disturbance; ordinary finish removal is not an inferred insulation-treatment or abatement service.
New insulation, air barriers, services and final finishes remain separately assigned. Demolition does not establish energy savings, comfort improvements or rebate eligibility.
Explain the removal need in plain language
Ask TrueNorth to assess the interior contribution, naming the affected rooms, chosen design and retained finishes. Mention the adviser or builder coordinating the retrofit. The interior-demolition service supports the assessed removals while the retrofit professionals retain responsibility for the building’s performance.
Explain your project your way
Use the short enquiry or the optional three-step planner. You can review the summary and leave uncertain details for assessment. Neither form accepts attachments.
