Do I mean fireplace finish removal or chimney removal?

These descriptions can mean very different work. Removing a decorative surround is not the same as removing a firebox, flue or chimney through the building. Start by saying which visible part you want gone and what you want to use the space for.

Separate the decisions

The visible face does not show every connection or support. If an appliance or service is involved, the appropriate specialist needs to review it. Do not assume an unused fireplace is disconnected or that the chimney serves nothing else.

What to explain next

Ask for the components to be identified during assessment before the scope is agreed. If only appearance is changing, discuss that limited goal first. Any structural or roof implications need professional review rather than an online promise of straightforward removal.

Explore deck, fence and outdoor structure removal or ask about your own project.

Put the uncertainty into words

“We want the stone face removed, but are unsure whether the fireplace and chimney would remain. Please help identify the separate decisions before defining the work.”

  • Which component do you want removed?
  • What is known about its current use or connections?
  • Who will review structural and service implications?

Choose your next step

Use the short enquiry, or organise what you know in the optional three-step planner. You can leave uncertain details for assessment. The form does not accept attachments.
