Shared rooms and facilities
Community-facility refurbishment: ordinary rooms and retained building features
A community facility may need an office reconfiguration, meeting-room renewal or kitchen update while much of the building remains. Start with the rooms that actually change. Significant building features, ceremonial elements and specialist equipment should not enter an ordinary removal list by association.

Compare the room packages
| Room group | Ordinary removal to discuss | Retained or separately assigned feature |
|---|---|---|
| Offices and meeting rooms | Assessed partitions, fixed storage and finishes | Structure and useful adjoining rooms |
| Community kitchen | Named cabinetry and ordinary finishes | Equipment and connected services |
| Shared hall | Selected attached fittings or finish areas | Significant fabric, technical equipment and reviewed routes |
The design team establishes the actual room arrangement and building requirements. Heritage conservation, art handling, sanctuary restoration and organ removal are not inferred from ordinary commercial strip-outs.
Plan around what makes the building worth keeping
Identify special finishes and features before assessing nearby ordinary interiors. A later cupboard or partition may meet retained fabric that needs professional direction. The relevant specialist should establish that boundary; demolition is not a conservation assessment.
Ask the receiving contractor to define repairs and reinstatement at the removed elements. A cleared room is not automatically ready for its new fittings or public use.
Two illustrative refurbishment choices
In one example, two ordinary meeting rooms become a larger space under a reviewed design. The proposed package concerns their assessed dividing elements and affected finishes, while the main hall remains outside the work.
In another, the room layout stays but a kitchen and washroom are renewed. That package needs fixture and wet-area boundaries rather than the meeting-room partition scope. The commercial washroom guide develops those decisions.
For an actual performance venue, use the theatre-refurbishment guide to distinguish audience areas and technical systems. Do not treat all shared halls as interchangeable.
Coordinate users before setting dates
The owner and project team decide access, closures and event arrangements. Retaining one room does not guarantee it remains usable through the work. A proposed event date is a constraint to assess, not a promised completion date.
Describe the rooms and retained features, with the authorised facility or general-contractor contact. TrueNorth can assess the ordinary demolition contribution without claiming institutional procurement qualifications or specialist restoration experience.
