Inside the home

How do I plan removal of the home’s only bathroom?

Start by identifying when the household loses its essential facilities and how it will manage until replacement work is complete. Demolition completion and a usable new bathroom are different milestones. Avoid arranging the first without a credible plan for the second.

Separate the decisions

Your builder and plumbing contractor should help establish the sequence. Keeping a toilet for part of a renovation may or may not be feasible; it must not be assumed in an online description. Access to another property or temporary accommodation is a household decision to resolve before relying on continued use.

What to explain next

Tell the contractor that this is the only bathroom and identify any essential access needs. Ask which facilities will be unavailable and what later work determines their return. Do not share sensitive personal circumstances publicly or request a guaranteed completion date from a short form.

Put the uncertainty into words

“This is our only bathroom. We need to understand when it becomes unavailable and coordinate removal with the plumber and installer before booking.”

  • Which essential facilities will be unavailable?
  • Who coordinates their return to use?
  • What arrangement is available during the interruption?

Choose your next step

Use the short enquiry, or organise what you know in the optional three-step planner. You can leave uncertain details for assessment. The form does not accept attachments.
